You can claim asylum in the UK if you fear persecution in your own country because of your race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group, and your own state cannot or will not protect you. People who do not meet the refugee definition but face serious harm may be granted humanitarian protection. The process is long and the interview is decisive; representation from the start changes outcomes.
What we help with
- First claims: registering the claim, preparing your statement, gathering evidence of your account and of conditions in your country, and representing you through the substantive interview.
- Fresh claims: where an earlier claim was refused and appeal rights are exhausted, new evidence can found a fresh claim. The test is strict and the submissions must be prepared carefully.
- Humanitarian protection: for people at real risk of serious harm who fall outside the Refugee Convention.
- Human rights applications: claims based on family and private life under Article 8, and medical cases under Article 3.
- Trafficking and modern slavery: referral to the National Referral Mechanism, support while a decision is made, and the leave that can follow a positive decision.
- Appeals: representing you in the First-tier Tribunal if the claim is refused.
Legal aid
Asylum work is funded by legal aid for people who qualify financially, and we hold a legal aid contract. We assess eligibility at the first appointment. Where legal aid is not available, we offer fixed fees for defined stages.
What to expect
We take a full statement from you in a language you are comfortable in, explain each stage of the process, prepare you for the interview and attend it where possible, and keep the Home Office to its timetable. We will always tell you honestly how strong the claim is.
