On this page
Indian nationals need a visa to visit the UK. The rules are the Standard Visitor rules; this page covers the process from India and the points on which applications from India are most often refused.
The process
- Online application on GOV.UK, choosing the visit purpose.
- Payment of the fee and booking at a VFS Global visa application centre in India for biometrics and document submission.
- Decision, usually within the published service standard of three weeks; priority services are available in most centres for an extra fee.
Evidence that decides Indian applications
- Funds: bank statements showing the money is yours and has been there for some time, with an explanation for large recent deposits. Unexplained deposits are the single most common reason for refusal.
- Ties to India: employment letter with leave approved, business registration and tax returns for the self-employed, property, and family responsibilities.
- Sponsor in the UK: if a relative is paying or hosting, their status, income and accommodation, with a letter of invitation. The sponsor's finances must stand up to the same scrutiny as yours.
- Travel history and previous refusals, which must be declared.
- Purpose: an itinerary that fits the stated reason and the length of stay.
This is not a complete list. What you need depends on your circumstances, and the documents vary from case to case. Your solicitor will tell you exactly what applies to you.
Long-term visit visas
Frequent visitors, for example parents of settled children, can apply for two, five or ten-year visit visas. Each visit is limited to six months and the genuine visitor test applies throughout.
After a refusal
There is no appeal. We read the refusal letter, identify the evidence that was missing or misunderstood, and prepare a fresh application that answers it.
What we do
We prepare the application and covering letter with the evidence organised to the rules, for applicants in India and their sponsors in the UK, by video and secure upload.
Fees
Home Office fees and the immigration health surcharge change each April; we confirm the current figures when we advise you. Our fee is fixed and quoted before you instruct us; see our fees.
