Visa refusals

National law firm Solicitors representing clients across the UK

What we help with

  • Appealswhich decisions carry a right of appeal, the 14 and 28-day limits, the fee, the hearing and onward appeal..
  • Administrative reviewwhich decisions qualify, the 14 and 28-day time limits, the £80 fee, caseworking errors and when to reapply instead..

Send us your refusal letter (PDF)Upload the refusal and a solicitor will come back to you with your options.

A refusal letter tells you why the application failed and, usually, what you can do about it. The right response depends on the type of application, where you were when you applied and the reasons given. Time limits are short: 14 days for most appeals and administrative reviews from inside the UK, 28 days from outside.

Your options after a refusal

  1. Appeal to the First-tier Tribunal: available for human rights and protection claims, EU Settlement Scheme decisions and some others. A judge looks at the case afresh and can allow it.
  2. Administrative review: for points-based applications such as Skilled Worker and Student, where the Home Office re-checks its own decision for errors. Narrow, but quick and cheap.
  3. A fresh application: often the best route for visitor and family refusals where the problem was evidence rather than eligibility.
  4. Judicial review: where there is no appeal and the decision is unlawful, unreasonable or unfair. Strict time limits apply.

Reading the refusal

We read the letter against the rules and the evidence you sent, tell you whether the refusal is right, and which route gives you the best chance. Sometimes the honest advice is that the refusal was correct and a new application with the missing evidence is the quickest fix.

What we do

We advise on the route within the time limit, lodge the appeal or review, prepare the grounds and evidence, and represent you at the hearing. Our fees for appeals and reviews are fixed and published on the fees page.
