The proposed civil partner visa is the civil partnership equivalent of the fiancé visa. It lets you come to the UK for six months to register a civil partnership with your British, Irish or settled partner, after which you switch to the civil partner visa from inside the UK.
Requirements
- Both 18 or over and free to form a civil partnership; any previous marriage or civil partnership has ended.
- Intention to register the partnership within six months of arrival and to live together permanently in the UK.
- Financial requirement of £29,000 from the sponsor's income or savings.
- English at CEFR A1 unless exempt, and adequate accommodation.
- Evidence of the relationship and of the registration plans, such as notice given to the register office.
On the visa
You cannot work or study. Register the partnership early enough to apply for the switch before the six months expires. Time on this visa does not count towards settlement; the five years run from the grant of the civil partner visa.
Fees
£2,064 from outside the UK for this visa; the switch costs £1,407 plus the health surcharge of £1,035 a year. Correct on 13 October 2026. Our fixed fee is £1,500 for one applicant; we can arrange a fixed fee for additional applicants. See our fees.
