Your UKVI account and eVisa: signing in, updating details and travelling
Last updated 15 October 2026
On this page
Your eVisa is the online record of your immigration status. It lives in your UKVI account, which you use to see your status, prove it with a share code, and keep the Home Office updated when your passport or contact details change. Holders of settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme use the same account.
Signing in
Go to the View and prove your immigration status page on GOV.UK and choose sign in. You identify yourself with the document linked to the account (passport, national identity card or old BRP number) or your application reference, plus your date of birth, and then enter the security code sent to the phone or email on the account.
If you have never created an account, choose create a UKVI account. People who applied through the UK Immigration: ID Check app already have one, under the email used in the app. If your BRP has expired you can still use its number to create the account.
Updating your details
You must keep the account up to date. In the account you can:
- add a new passport or travel document, so that airlines and the border can find your status; do this as soon as you receive a new passport, before you travel;
- change your phone number or email address;
- change your name or other personal details (evidence is required);
- give someone else access to help you manage the account, which stays under your control.
Updating the account is free and does not need an application. Not updating a passport can mean being stopped at check-in while the carrier contacts the Home Office.
Travelling
Airlines, ferries and Eurostar check your status automatically against the passport you present, which is why it must be linked to your account. Carry your passport and, if you still have it, any in-date physical document. At the UK border the officer sees your eVisa. If a carrier cannot see your status, generate a share code for something else and show it, or ask them to call the Home Office carrier support line.
Locked out, lost phone, wrong details
- Lost access to the phone or email: use recover access to your UKVI account on GOV.UK. You prove your identity again; it can take several days.
- Account shows the wrong status, a wrong name or expired leave after a new grant: use the report an error with your eVisa form. Keep the reference.
- Application still pending: your eVisa may show the old expiry date. Your conditions continue under section 3C while a timely application is decided; employers use the Employer Checking Service.
- No smartphone or need help online: the Home Office's assisted digital service helps by phone, and we can help you set the account up.
Settled and pre-settled status
EU Settlement Scheme status has always been digital, so nothing changes for sign-in. Pre-settled status is now extended automatically before it expires where the Home Office can see you still qualify, and converted to settled status automatically where its checks show five years' continuous residence; you should still check the account and apply for settled status yourself if the automatic process has not happened. If you have been outside the UK for long periods, take advice before relying on the automatic route.
